But won’t capitalism, like with everything else it touches, consolidate the space and push the profit mechanisms in place towards people pulling the strings of power? Substack itself is not immune to the fact money still talks with a weight we will never be able to control.

Within a market-based economy (sounds like that tracks with how you see capitalism), there are ways to constrain unscrupulous behavior and concentration of power. It’s a sort of three-legged stool: regulation, litigation, and social pressure. We just aren’t using them enough at the moment in US. Agree this is a structural problem but I think it’s more a matter of politics — how do we govern ourselves— than economics.

I think it is necessary to note that the patch is shaped like Texas, for a facility in Florida. What patches are they wearing at the Dilley Center outside San Antonio?
